They are pretty stubborn.
Mine is trained to use a doggie door. Which he uses for the most part. Except if I leave...then he'll say "frick you for leaving me at home alone" and go pee or poop on the dining room floor so we have to crate him anytime we leave the house.

Even though they have their issues(stubborn and shed like crazy)...I'll likely always have a pug, once you have one you get hooked on them cause they really are awesome little dogs. My husband seems to think this will not be the case though(even though I keep telling him). He'll see

Agreed. I have a 15 year old pug and she's great. My girlfriend just got a pug puppy as well. I will definitely be getting another pug after my current one passes away. They're great companion dogs.

Wow, that's pretty old for a pug right? Makes me hopeful about mine. He is 8 right now and it saddens me when I think that I'll likely have much less days with him by my side than the amount of days he has already lived.

Our pug just turned 10. She's a great dog and part of the family. They're not that easy to train though and can be pretty stubborn. She's good about going outside but if you're wanting to teach them tricks, you're probably out of luck. Also, they need a good deal of grooming and they shed really bad. You'll also need to keep an eye on the folds of their face as they can get irritated and even infected pretty regularly. Also, baths are needed quite regularly or they will start to stink. They don't do well in really hot places so they're inside dogs for sure. You can take them out to get exercise but just don't leave them out all day.

I think 15 is pretty old for them. Ours just turned 10 and lately we've noticed she's really starting to show her age.

Don't forget they will fight you like crazy if you go anywhere near their toenails
I bathe Butters at home and brush him with the furminator on a regular basis(and still brush off enough fur that resembles small animals off of him), but will take him to Petsmart and pay the $14 to get his nails grinded down. Worth every penny to me to not have to try and trim his nails myself.

Yes, 15 would be very elderly for a pugs age. I brought her for a full checkup 2 weeks ago and other than some minor arthritis she's still kicking strong.
Agreed that it's sad knowing her time is in its twilight but she's had a very great and pampered life. Now stop before you make me tear up at work lol

Mine is 8 and he mainly shows his age in his face. His once black muzzle is mostly gray now. He is still really active but I have noticed him getting tired more easily when he goes on hikes with me.
I don't know if you can see my avy pic....that was him when he was like 5-6 months old

Darth, if you're not already, I would get your dog on some daily joint/digestive supplements, it can work wonders. Also, the food you feed them becomes even more important in their senior state. Last thing, KEEP THEIR MOUTH CLEAN.

Ours gets annual teeth cleanings where he is put under to get them clean. He has already had like 6 teeth total removed though. Pugs are just prone to bad teeth issues due to the shape of their mouths/faces.
I have a pet care plan with Petsmart and it includes all his needed shots, labwork, etc and the annual teeth cleaning.

My friends had a pug named Elvis.
Fattest thing I ever saw.
One day he ate a bag of flour. Straight flour.
They locked him in the garage for the aftermath. And it was horrendous. The amount of diarrhea was ungodly, and was like a plaster or glue.
The husband had to use a tile scraper to clean it.
I decided: frick that. I ain't owning a dog that would ever eat just plain flour. What the frick, pug?

Yeah they will eat anything. I came home one day to my apartment when Butters was like 9 months old to find a huge hole in the DRYWALL where I had him in his pen. He had EATEN A HOLE IN THE WALL less than 2 inches away from the electrical outlet.
Needless to say I didn't get my deposit back when I moved from that place.
Pugs are not the brightest things and their quest for stuff to fill their bellies overrides the part of their brain that shows any intelligence. But you don't own a pug cause you want a highly intelligent dog. You know they are dumb, but very sweet, funny and lovable things that will make for great companions.

Thankfully we've got a good groomer in our hometown that take care of this.

The frequent baths is a must. I think it's due to the fact they can't bend over enough to clean their own privates, but man do they start to stink if you don't give them regular baths.

I had labs growing up that ate through the drywall. One of them also chewed on an outdoor electrical outlet. My mom heard it in the middle of the night and went to turn the lights on outside to see what the noise was, when she flipped the switch it shocked the shite out of my male lab. He wouldn't come out of his doghouse for 2 days, but he didn't chew anything he wasn't supposed to after that.
My wife and I have 2 Puggles now, all those little effers ever chew up are my socks and my wife's panties
