Safety Dance

This (at least a top 5 nominee). SiriusXM's Saturday night "Safety Dance" is a dj mashing up and mixing all sorts of 80's tunes. The fact that they named it this should give it credit the way Lithium, channel 34, takes their name from the Nirvana hit.

I'll give you my hasty dozen-- new wave and the like only (no Poison, Bon Jovi, Quiet Riot, or Def Lepard, nor any heavy metal; as it was described in the 80's):

1. You Spend Me Right Round - Dead or Alive
2. Need You Tonight - INXS
3. Safety Dance - Men Without Hats
4. Hungry Like the Wolf - Duran Duran
5. Under the Milky Way - The Church
6. Drive - The Cars
7. Pride - U2
8. Doves Cry - Prince
9. We Got the Beat - The Go Gos
10. I just Died in Your Arms - Cutting Crew
11. Sunglasses at Night - Cory Hart
12. She Drives Me Crazy - Fine Young Cannibals

This is a pretty good list right here. I might add:
Don't You Forget About Me - Simple Minds
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper
Karma Chameleon - Culture Club
and something from Madonna's early years

ETA: Money for Nothing - Dire Straits; something from Springsteen's Born in the USA album; Jump - Van Halen; Manic Monday or Walk Like an Egyptian - The Bangles.

These 4 are pretty timeless IMO
