There is a significant drop off from the 1st and 2nd group of DL. That's not necessarily Steele's fault. He has to play with the cards that are dealt. There does however seem to be several instances of confusion between the safeties and D. Thomas. We don't know who is a fault there, but there have been more than a few times where #13 and #33 seem to discussing what went wrong after a big play.

The secondary is solid for the most part, but for as good as he can be on blitzes and against the run, Thomas looks as if he has lost a step in pass coverage. Not all the time, of course, but it seems like this year when there has been big gains in the passing game, Thomas has been the victim.

I am very impressed by the D this season. Was expecting far worse.

We are tackling so much better, getting more pressure, and getting more turnovers.

At least Steele is nearly shutting out teams in the first half allowing us to build a lead.. I actually prefer this than playing from behind all game!

We are also much better in the run game.. nothing is worse than being run all over. Again, our guys are tackling better and typically in better position containing running QBs than with Chavis.

The biggest problem, besides lack of depth on the d line, is that the special teams has done the defense no favors all season long. In the 2nd half.. when other teams have tremendous field position we are very suspect in pass coverage.. however, in the 2nd half when we get good field position our D is far superior and gets after it.. forcing more punts/turnovers.

People upset with the D need to realize we do have a lack of depth on the D line, but we are still getting better penetration out of them in the first half than before.

If we continue to hold opponents under 24 I will take that all day long.. and 24 points is not even all on the D.. give special teams is giving up scores and bad field position.. Also last week, we gifted them a walk in TD off a fluke turnover on the 2 yard line.

I actually really like the way this D has been coached and positioned in the first half. I have no issue as long as we continue to shut out opponents in the first half and build leads.
