It felt like they were moving around trying to evade alive humans. I could be off, but they looked like they were more worried about remaining unseen rather than unheard. Walkers typically react to the noises rather than seeing something.

Also, it looked like Maggie and Diana were walking through a haze of smoke or gas or something. I guess a walker could've accidentally caused a fire, but I'm thinking it may be some sort of tear gas or smoke bomb or diversion or something.
