The "great benefit" is a farce. What majors do these guys usually have? How many actually graduate and use their degree?

What difference does that make if they're not academically qualified to be there in the first place? How are they supposed to "make the most of an opportunity" they aren't even suited to take advantage of?

These are schools. None of these kids have to go to school to play football. The school is offering them free tuition and the exposure that comes with playing on the football team that they can use to help them land a job as a professional.

Thank you! This is why I can't stand it when Vitale and his ilk bitch about the 1 and done rule. Who is forcing them to go to UK or UConn? Who says they can't go to Italy or just hang out at the Y for a year?

One of them should just tweet "you don't want to make an enemy out of me" to the other. The beef would be instantly squashed and they would come together united to laugh heartily at Stephen A. Smith.

Yep, no need to take what Danny Kanell tweeted and turn it into a different issue altogether.

Bomani and his mom in here downvoting all the 'Bomani is an idiot' posts!

Fine, don't let them into college at all. Then there's no chance they will make the NFL.
It is still voluntary to play, right?

Who said anything about it being involuntary?

Are you saying you believe they are worse off for the experience?
Most schools offer academic waivers for unqualified athletes to become student-athletes. It seems to me that would be a positive for the recipient.

That's their choice not to get a degree.

No. I'm saying the system is a joke.

Assuming they're capable of getting one in the first place.

Maybe they're choosing to 'keep it real'?

Anyone is capable of getting a degree. It just takes more work for some.
Posted on 10/10/15 at 9:01 pm to cubsfan5150
That's simply not true.

Chubb has not even played half of his 2nd season. He could have tried out for the NFL straight of of high school, but who would have ever known of his existence without the platform provided by the University of Georgia, the SEC, and the NCAA?

Why? Unless they are mentally disabled?

If that were the case, then graduation rates would be much higher. If you think just anyone can graduate after four years of college, then there's a huge problem with higher education in general.
