I believe Greinke had the better season
quote:i disagree with this because kershaw is the best pitcher in baseball
He should also start Game 1

I really wish goldennugget would show his face in a Kershaw thread.

Greinke had the better season and I believe has better playoff stats as well. Go with him and go up 1-0

Cool. I hope you enjoy Kershawa game one start after your season ends

The Dodgers postseason relies on thr arm of two pitchers. Outside of that, they're pedestrian
Posted on 10/4/15 at 9:33 pm to tzimme4
you mean the dodgers playoff hopes rely on the performance of two of the best pitchers in baseball? no way

Saying Greinke is better than Kershaw because he posted a lower ERA for one year is lazy. Are Macro Estrada and Wei Yei Chen better than Chris Sale?
Marco Estrada has been fantastic despite wildly exceeding his xFIP and many other advanced metrics. He throws pretty soft and relies on getting a ton of pop-ups, which seems crazy in Toronto, but his command is so on point.
Obviously, you want to maximize strikeouts, minimize walks, and maximize weak contact, but some soft tossing guys with pinpoint command can work. Things can vary so much season to season, so I think it is totally fair to say that Estrada is having a great year.
Chris Young is the most extreme example of a true sabermetric outlier. He literally breaks the scales by constantly pitching up in the zone.
Will Marco Estrada repeat in 2015? Almost assuredly not, but it is a joy watching him frustrate batters right now.

I'm concerned for you, I guys these Cardinals fans got in your head this season. The whole "your season will end" thing seems like it would be beneath you. As I stated earlier you are taking this Kershaw stuff personally now it seems.

Your Kershaw threads are almost as bad as Rockets threads.

No doubt, and guys like him and Young point out the flaws in FIP and xFIP (Cueto seems to be another one, he continually posts low BABIPs), but Estrada still isn't in the same stratosphere as Chris Sale, despite having a lower ERA. FIP, xFIP, SIERA, etc. are far from perfect, but ERA is just as flawed (if not more) in my opinion. So I reject this notion that having a lower ERA in one year proves someone is the better pitcher or even necessarily pitched better that year.

Cy young will be awarded to Arrieta

You were the one who decided to douche this thread up. Not me baw
Posted on 10/5/15 at 8:41 am to BayouBengals03
What? I've started like two or three all year
Posted on 10/5/15 at 9:39 am to WestCoastAg
Pretty nice having him and Arrieta on my fantasy team

I totally agree with you. I am just defensive about Estrada. I am impressed that he carved out a way to be a successful pitcher. There is also no doubt that Chris Sale is a top five or so pitcher in baseball and Estrada will never reach that level unless he magically gains 7 mph of velocity at age 32.
Cueto is very interesting. I have accepted the fact that he will have a .240 BABIP. He is the absolute best at inducing weak contact.
Also, Chris Young does not apply to sabermetrics. We simply do not have a way to quantify his success.

Chris Sale had some terrible games this year. Dropped off a good bit
6 games giving up 5 ER or more. including 3 with 7 or more. He was kind of a mess this year by Sale standards

The AL Cy young race is also pretty interesting between price and keuchel
Posted on 10/5/15 at 10:15 am to WestCoastAg
Price will win it i think
if Dallas played in a different market he'd have a shot

Playing behind the absolute worst defense in baseball had a lot to do with that I would imagine. That and he somehow couldn't figure out the Twins.
He was really his usual self though other than an elevated .323 BABIP, which again I would chalk up to the White Sox atrocious defense more than anything Sale did.
If I had my choice of any AL pitcher to win one game, Sale is my pick (unless maybe I'm facing the Twins)
