I actually heard the knives were good. I just remember going to these meetings and it feeling very awkward...then again, I'm not one of those that approaches all my family and friends to sell shite.

True. You remember same thing about some fancy water filters.
I went to a presentation for selling them off Sherwood (one of them offices where Londoner is now) back in 94. Was a dude on video surrounded by exotic cars asking if we wanted to be rich. Then a chick telling us to pay $300 and get started recruiting friends to sell these filters.
I got the frick out of that place in 5 minutes on a 'break' between presenters.
