You can have a lot of penalties and win a national championship

How you boys? (and girls?)
For fun, I wrote this piece this morning while drinking Community Coffee from a Cafe du Monde mug in the Pacific Northwest, and it reminded me of fun times with y'all (yes, I still use that word).
The early kickoff (9 a.m. for me) Saturday gave me a rare chance to watch LSU play, and it prompted me to write the piece. Thought you might enjoy reading it.
I hope all is well down there in Baton Rouge, or wherever you might be.

Nice to hear from you, Carl. Hope all is well.
ETA: I agree with Danielson that officials tend to scrutinize the better teams with regards to throwing flags. I think a big part of it is also how aggressive a team plays, particularly on defense. Better, more athletic defenses tend to play with more attitude (think late hits, jumping offsides, etc.).
Also, to use Baylor as an example, teams that run HUNH obviously run more plays, which means they will inevitably have more penalties.

Championship teams may have to overcome mistakes to succeed.
If there's enough talent, this is possible.
But penalties always hurt your chances.

Knowing the fan base and the fact that there is only one crystal ball given out each year and we have it for 2003, why would you even do this?

The negatigers will seize on anything to use against LSU. The 2001/2002 Miami penalty stats should shut this crap up once and for all. A more talented, aggressive team has likely never been assembled in CFB before or since than that Miami team.

If you want to debate whether or not there is little correlation between being highly penalized and a lack of success go right ahead. Or you could keep bashing Miles and the staff and telling us to rotate on your extended middle finger.

2007 - most penalized team in the SEC, still won the Natty...also, WITH 2 LOSSES!!

Penalties are like being in a bank when its being robbed. No problem if you're still in line waiting to make a withdrawal but it becomes more problematic if you lose the withdrawn money you have in your hand.
It's all about timing.

The Patriots led the NFL in penalties last year and won the Super Bowl. Seahawks were close at 27th of 32 and almost won the Super Bowl.

Sooo....
Let's go out Saturday and see how many times we can get penalized!

As Carl states in the article, Bama is the outlier. Maybe it's the whole "Saban's teams can do no wrong" subconscious mentality the officials have.
