It was a perfect fit for the time period it came out in. Great location, solid acting, good directing... A really well done series.

When it first came out I didn't watch it. I thought it was a joke of a beefcake show for horny middle aged house wives.
For some reason, I tuned in one day, and this episode was on: Home From the Sea
I had know idea how deep the character was, how much the writers worked at crafting a true world with layered and intertwined story arcs that wove together in to a pretty great show.
The Viet Nam flashbacks were much more impactful back in 1983 when the war was still fairly fresh in the country's consciousness.
I also liked that there was just a touch of the mystical influence in this episode, Magnum's struggle with staying afloat, calling out to his dad, the shark that keeps him in a constant state of panic, and how his buddies sense that somethings wrong.
Yep, I was hooked after that. I think I've probably watched the whole series since.

Thomas' annual July 4th solitude takes a turn for the worse while on his surf ski. His time spent on the water shifts between present and his childhood time when his father left for the Korean war. Rick, T.C. and Higgins each feel something is wrong, just in the nick of time.

Meh. Rockford Files meets Hawaii Five-O - but I like Magnum.
He's no Jim Rockford, though. Magnum's crew was, generally, better than Rockford's crew, but even then it's close.

I used to love this show, but it's been way too long since I have seen it to really remember it. Probably worth a re-watch at some point

I don't know who the best PI was. But the best bounty hunter was Colt Seavers. That truck was awesome.
Staring Heather Thomas didn't hurt

Magnum was awesome, but Jim Rockford was the better PI hands down. The dude could put on a pair of glasses, print a business card, and find out anything he needed to know. He also had few resources and was never getting paid for his work.

This is the first series that I remember seeing the premiere of when it aired. The ferrari was beyond cool to me.

Fantastic show, at the time and now. Worked at many different levels.
The 4th wall aspect was great fun.
Question- did we ever decide if Higgins was Robin Masters?
