I'm not saying that I support common core, I don't know enough about it to know what it is. I've seen the FB post with the simple math problem. But to dismiss an idea, just because it looks different (and it does look strange to me) is crazy. Just because we learned one way, doesn't mean there isn't a better way. If they are teaching this in conjunction with traditional ways of learning, it can only help in the students understanding of math. I can't say this is better, I'm saying that it's worth a look. It shouldn't be dismissed just because it's different.
I am pretty much against Federal involvement in most everything, education included. I believe the states need to be doing everything possible to push education and further learning on their own, they shouldn't give the feds a reason to try and push their own agenda. It seems that everyone is jumping at the opportunity to bash and trash this method of teaching. Is common core the answer? Hell if I know, but I think people should keep an open mind.

Forget about "Common Core". That brings in lots of other issues. It's about Eureka math. Common Core does not have to use Eureka math.
