I was thinking about this the other day. I have a very specific memory of when I was 3 rocking backwards on an old wood rocking chair in my new house at the time in carmel acres in Central peeking through the holes in the stitching pattern on the back laughing with my father who was joking around with me.

Most people I would think remember preschool or kindergarten because of the thought processes of learning and repetition. I remember my pre-k class at Brownsfield Baptist in Baker writing my name (I also won a bible for reciting 26 bible verses for each letter of the alphabet at the end of the year) and vividly a bunch of Kindergarten memories at Tanglewood in central. My first kiss was a blonde girl named Lacey in the roots of a huge tree in the playground.

I'm curious to see what you all have as your very first memory you can recall and the first real impact memories you had. At what age do most people start being able to recall memories from? I also have this memory of sleeping in my bedroom with a humidifier but I don't know how old I was. I think it's before the 3 year old memory I have.

ETA: This doesn't mean if you remeber specific pictures or video of you because those can be mistaken as actual memories

We were living in Atlanta in some apartment complex. My dad was part of a retail chain called GEX, which at the time was kind of like a Sam's or something...like a member type retail store like a K-Mart. He'd get transferred all over the south, though we were from New Orleans...so depending upon how long we were in a place sometimes it was an apartment instead of a house.

In Atlanta, I had to be between 2-3 and I remember the entryway to the apartment had stairs rights near the front door and would take a couple of steps down to get to the living room. I also have a vague memory of watching a ball bounce down a hill while on a sidewalk. I asked my older sister about this a few years ago and she said that in fact where we were was at the top of a hill so that probably happened.

After that, stuff like being around watching our house be built in St. Charles Parish when I was around 4 and snippets of memories of my mom before she died in 1976 before I turned 6.

My older brother and I were running around in paws nuts one day when he got shot up moms arse and a little while later I made it to the money hole. So that would make it -9 months and change.
Never saw my brother again.

Laying in a crib in my grandparent's bedroom. I don't know how old I was, but it's forged in my memory.

I was two or three. I remember watching Marvin the Martian. There are also other times that people took pictures of which I can remember.

Eta: forever just reminded me. I remember climbing out of my crib all the time.

What's cool about this is that someone may spark a memory in you that you didn't think about until reading theirs.

3 yr old birthday present. I can't remember anything else from when I was 3 but I think I rehashed it in my mind so many times that it stuck with me. I remember exactly where I was and what I received.

I remember being in a wave pool at some water park with my mom and aunt. I was running into the next wave and my mom picks me up from behind as it comes. I remember her laughing. I always thought I was 3 when it happened but my mom told me I was 5

Helps explain my shitty memory

We moved to the house I grew up in when I was 2, almost 3 years old. But I have very vague memories of the house before that, particularly playing in the driveway which is specific because it was one of those driveways with a split slab where it's just two strips of concrete for the car wheels and there's grass in between. The other memory from that house is hearing Beatles music on a transistor radio.
