see.
This is the tactic being used to silence white people.
You just come in and start bashing people with nothing of substance to add to the conversation.
This is what we're sick of.

It's just ,Attack,Attack,Attack,Attack with no real reason.

Most of you should admit you don't give a shite about minorities, their problems or their concerns and just be done with it so we can stop these asinine threads.
They always turn into the bigot parade whenever they get started and no one calls you pieces of shite out on it. And of course Chicken allows it but I'll probably get banned for calling it out

No this thread should have never been started, because all you will get is the same tired rhetoric and same respectability politics and the same bigots who say the same shite over and over. There is no new perspective, just bashing black people and the same old bigoted jokes

Funny you should mention polices and solutions.

The only policy that will make a difference is to end the war on drugs.

From reddit

quote:

[–]GeekAesthete 6444 points 1 month ago*x17

Imagine that you're sitting down to dinner with your family, and while everyone else gets a serving of the meal, you don't get any. So you say "I should get my fair share." And as a direct response to this, your dad corrects you, saying, "everyone should get their fair share." Now, that's a wonderful sentiment -- indeed, everyone should, and that was kinda your point in the first place: that you should be a part of everyone, and you should get your fair share also. However, dad's smart-arse comment just dismissed you and didn't solve the problem that you still haven't gotten any!

The problem is that the statement "I should get my fair share" had an implicit "too" at the end: "I should get my fair share, too, just like everyone else." But your dad's response treated your statement as though you meant "only I should get my fair share", which clearly was not your intention. As a result, his statement that "everyone should get their fair share," while true, only served to ignore the problem you were trying to point out.

That's the situation of the "black lives matter" movement. Culture, laws, the arts, religion, and everyone else repeatedly suggest that all lives should matter. Clearly, that message already abounds in our society.

The problem is that, in practice, the world doesn't work the way. You see the film Nightcrawler? You know the part where Renee Russo tells Jake Gyllenhal that she doesn't want footage of a black or latino person dying, she wants news stories about affluent white people being killed? That's not made up out of whole cloth -- there is a news bias toward stories that the majority of the audience (who are white) can identify with. So when a young black man gets killed (prior to the recent police shootings), it's generally not considered "news", while a middle-aged white woman being killed is treated as news. And to a large degree, that is accurate -- young black men are killed in significantly disproportionate numbers, which is why we don't treat it as anything new. But the result is that, societally, we don't pay as much attention to certain people's deaths as we do to others. So, currently, wedon't treat all lives as though they matter equally.

Just like asking dad for your fair share, the phrase "black lives matter" also has an implicit "too" at the end: it's saying that black lives should also matter. But responding to this by saying "all lives matter" is willfully going back to ignoring the problem. It's a way of dismissing the statement by falsely suggesting that it means "only black lives matter," when that is obviously not the case. And so saying "all lives matter" as a direct response to "black lives matter" is essentially saying that we should just go back to ignoring the problem.

TL;DR: The phrase "Black lives matter" carries an implicit "too" at the end; it's saying that black lives should also matter. Saying "all lives matter" is dismissing the very problems that the phrase is trying to draw attention to.

I just went back and looked for these. I'm being serious when i say i did not find any of which you speak.

And who are you to say that this thread should have never been started? You realize the admins here are monitoring this thread with diligence and it's still here right?

You have to be better than that. You really do.If you have a problem with somebody's specific comments, you should address it to that person. If your ideas and arguments can't withstand scrutiny, you should probably consider not posting and just hitting the street with a sign and a slogan. On THIS forum, we discuss things. If dissenting opinion discombobulates and unnerves you, maybe you should avoid the OT and take up knitting or community organizing.

Ok. I'm just going to dismiss any plight the BLM movement makes if this is the kind of rhetoric they're pushing.

They have no proof to back up their claims. Just the way they "feel". That is way different than someone sitting at a table waiting for food and everyone gets their food except for that one person.

Sensationalism at its finest here folks!

I sorta agree, but they brought this all on themselves. #BlackLivesMatter is a terrible slogan given what I understand about their cause. Their slogan is intentionally inflammatory and undermines their cause immediately.

They should have had a different slogan. This one kind of backfired.

This, exactly.

Oh please, so I'm gonna count on old white men to police other old white men on what they say about minorities... Really? That's a joke right?

You don't realize that the whole " black people don't have jobs" bit is old and dumb right? You probably haven't looked into any person whose invlolved in any of the protests background to make that assumption. You saw black people and ur mind jumped straight to, "oh they're black they must not have jobs" that's prejudice and bigotry right there

But don't you think that the statement "black lives matter" to a white person has some weird underlying assumption that the white person somehow thinks "black lives don't matter"?

most certainly

there is a large segment of blacks that believe all white are racists, and yes, that is insulting to a non racist white person

I also believe that the BLM "movement" has been hijacked by more "radical" or racist blacks, and at the core of the movement, there are things that you and me can agree on that need to change

I just wish the reasonable blacks were more vocal
