Its not this tiger that is different, its the way they treat him.
They no longer drug and force him into a tiny cage to be paraded around inside an insanely loud stadium with 100k drunk people screaming at him. Could you imagine what that's like for him? I bet its absolutely terrifying.
I don't blame Mike for not wanting to do that and I certainly don't blame the vet staff for not putting him through that. Big cats are going extinct, do we really want to treat our beloved mascot like that?
People need to get the frick over it and realize this is bigger than their want to see a Tiger freak out in a cage.
This post says it all. Nothing to add, except that now tigers are an endangered species, and if you overgrown frat boys want to guarantee that Mike VI is the last tiger to live in that habitat, keep bitching and moaning about him not going to games.
Some traditions are obsolete, and thankfully this one is dying. Mike represents LSU quite well in his habitat. All year long, not just football season, thousands come by to see him and he is very interactive.
I never understood the attraction about him in that tiny cage. From the NEZ, you can't tell whether there is a tiger or an aardvark in there.
And please. You think opposing college football players are "scared" of him?

I just don't understand how parading him around in a cage for half an hour is detrimental to his health. Is there any data to back this up? I'm not advocating drugging him to get him in here. But I truly don't understand why we can't throw a steak in there and let him enter on his own.
I love how no one has a problem with us locking up a Tiger on a few thousand square feet of land 365 days a year but we can't put him in a cage for 30 minutes.
"But it's a multimillion dollar habitat and he has caretakers"
Justify it however you want though.
