Per DOTD the exit can remain open and another lane added at the same time.
the best of both worlds. fantastic.
closing it and making it another lane would have been the easiest short term solution.

I haven't seeen anyone address it, but there is already a major part of the infrastructure for a loop in existence. If you take I-55 and connect it to the Gramercy/Wallace Bridge, funnel traffic to 3127, complete that to Gross Tete, then a possible connection to the bridge in St Francisville at 190; that removes a large amount of traffic just passin through BR. Large trucks, Texas, People just passing through. It is mainly farmland and Swamp, so I am thinking this would not be a huge right of way cost as opposed to throught EBR/East Ascensin/Livingston. Also, you include the bridge widening and ramp widening, finish the intertate to 6 lanes to Sorrento.

That would have solved nothing. You would gain 420 feet of lane to merge and that's it.
