Widen the bridge or build another one next to it.



That is part of what needs to be done. There needs to be a another bridge built next to the "new bridge." That way there can be a HOV lane atleast 2 lanes of through traffic and and exit lane with shoulders wide enough for emergency vehicles to use during wrecks in both directions. I-10 also needs to be widened but that is a minimum of $1.5 billion and we are broke. Now would be a good time to raise the gas tax or find other sources of revenue to use to fix it with though.

Yes, one part of any plan should be the upgrade of I-10 to the bridge from the split.

I also agree that a second bridge parallel to the existing bridge to carry Eastbound traffic is in order and it should include lanes for emergency vehicles, etc. The existing bridge can be then modified to carry the appropriate number of lanes with shoulders.

Just fixing the problem at Washington and Perkins, etc. is just part of the solution.
