Update: went look at the Hondas today. Think I'm going with the Recon. The Rancher 420s are so damn bulky. The Recon is big enough for two people to ride, and small enough that, if I get it bogged, I can literally pick up the back end and unstick it. I know a lot of you will prolly say I made the wrong choice, but it boils down to it being enough bike for what I need. Levee roads, and reserve roads. Plus I would need a trailer for the Rancher because I drive a crewmax with a short bed. The Recon will fit better. All in all, I feel like the Recon is better suited for what I will be using it for.

Thank you guys for yall opinions.

Recon is a good bike. Mine was a carbed 250, and the only place it was lacking was moving heavy trailers and hauling 3 or 4 people

The one I'm buying is the same, carbed 250.

Put some tires on the back, and you'll be good to go. I had vampires on mine

A lot of people underestimate how much a light 2wd 4 wheeler can go through

Sorry, just seeing your request for the link to the recon. It was at Brookhaven Honda.

My ex's stepdad had one of those. I always felt the gears were too tall in them and had the motor strung out

I doubt I will be in many situations I wont be able to get out of with a 2wd bike I can lift off the ground. I won't be in the marsh, or in the rice fields, so I think I'll be alright. Its my first four wheeler. I'm pumped.

Had an '02 Rancher 2WD, put ITP Mudlites on the back, and it made a huge difference. Sold it and still runs good to this day.

I'd go with the Rancher. It fit just fine in my short bed ford. Also, it was light enough that I was able to get it unstuck every time I but off more than I could chew.

Put down some 1x6s when you haul. Disperses the weight off the tailgate some

I've been told that too, actually to put a piece of plywood, but for the same reason, to even out the weight on the tailgate. I will only have an inch or two of tire on the tailgate.

That's not bad. I always used 1x6s. Had them cut to about 5/6 of the tailgate. My ramps would pretty much sit right flush.
