Bought a new Geissele MK8 MLOK rail to put on my 8.5" 300blk upper (I moved my KMR to my 10.3" 5.56).
I'm very pleased with the design. Very robust construction with a 2" barrel nut, two crossbolts, and two anti-rotation tabs that slip over the receiver that are buffed by two set screws.
When I slide the handguard over the barrel nut, this happens...
The culprit: The anti-rotation tabs. For some reason, my receiver is too thick for them to mate up.
I left a message with a tech at Geissele and am waiting on a call back. Ive searched and found a forum post where a guy had a similar issue that Geissele resolved. It was old though, so I'm preparing just in case.
In a worst-case scenario, would it be possible to file those tabs down until it mates up? I don't see why not, but I'd be a little scared to do it. What do yall think?
On a happier note, my 5.56 upper is SICK with the 9" KMR

Is that a milspec upper?
Posted on 8/25/15 at 2:17 pm to Carson123987
I don't see why you can't file it down, but that would be my last option

i know it's the problem Im just curious as to whether yall think I should file those tabs down
hopefully geissele can resolve it

That's a billet upper isn't it?
Just buy a new upper or get a different forearm. Last choice, take a file to a multi-hundred dollar engineered piece of art because you didn't plan correctly.
Your call.

File them sumbitches down... or take a Dremel to it. Is it a tool or a goddamn safe queen? I throw my AR's around, hit them against shite, paint them, shoot them... they don't have to look pretty.

VLTOR only does forged

lose the attitude. no disclaimer on Geissele's site, so I had no reason to think it wouldn't fit.

oops, missed the text between all the photos.
I wouldn't file them down until I was absolutely sure they couldn't do anything. But unlike Terd, I care about my firearms.

"The SMR is designed to fit M4 Carbine mil-spec flat top upper receivers and must be used with a low profile gas block (such as the Geissele SGB). Upper receivers that are not mil spec such as those manufactured from billet may need to have gunsmith modifications made to the SMR to fit properly. Compatibility with gas piston systems is unknown at this time (May 2013)."

it's forged, not billet, and it is mil-spec. nothing in there indicates that it wouldn't fit.

that's the plan. waiting on geissele. just planning in case they dont do anything

we care about em. they just get beat up in classes when doing barricade shooting and shite

Well then... contact them. This is a thread from a few months ago where they offered to do the modification free of charge for someone else. I've heard people remark about their customer service before.

Geissele rails are only designed to fit mil spec forged receivers. We should have had a note on the website.
Send in your upper and rail to James and we will modify N/C. If you ever sell your rail we will exchange it for the one thats we have modified.

just found the same thing. hopefully it's the same deal for my scenario

I have a few that are more valuable to me that I don't shoot as often and spend all their time tucked away in the safe.
Then I have shite like my AR's that I build, shoot, and end up selling or trading after a while. Scratches, dents, dings all add character. I look at them as a tool, not a collectible.
