Q&A: THE OFFSIDE RULE EXPLAINED
All you need to know about the new law
-How did the old rule work? Previously, a player was allowed to stand in an offside position as long as they were deemed to be not actively interfering with play.
-Meaning? Effectively, as long as a player did not touch the ball whilst in an offside position, the player would be not interfering, and would be onside.
-What's changed? A player will now be ruled offside if they clearly make an attempt to play the ball, or, if the offside player makes an action which impacts his opponent's ability to play the ball.
-Are any teams exempt from this change? Yes, Liverpool.
