I love how no one has addressed that he cost 8M.
By that logic, Cazorla has been the most underrated player in the league given that he cost 4 mil more, and has been involved in more goals (goals and assists) than Coutinho, while playing a season farther from goal than Coutinho.
Price tag shouldn't be used in player evaluations because there is a context behind each that is independent of a player's actual ability.

Since Zidane?
You realize Messi wears number 10 and also played that "role" for a long fricking time? Utterly dominating in it mind you?
I realize he plays more traditionally forward these days but cmon.

He basically has? He's right up there.
It's sound logic when you "rate" someone.

Read my sentence again. Ozil is fantastic at controlling the tempo of the game from the no. 10 position, just like Zidane did, just like every fantastic second striker from the 90's. Messi's game when he played behind the striker or as a false 9 is entirely different because it involved the ball at his feet running at defenses.

You are one of the main offenders on this board at shitting on Ozil. So you trying to rationalize Cou over him shouldn't be so suprising, but it still leaves me a bit shocked tbh.

Messi plays on the left and is the GOAT. Ozil is the best pure playmaker right now. It is what he does.
No one playing right now has his vision. It is like watching Steve Nash in his prime. Ozil wears 11.. Lol...
I'd take Cou right now, I like him a lot. This is a difficult game and Ozil and a few others make it look easy.

I guess David Silva is just garbage.

Statistically he's been far better. Like I said, Coutinho is closer to Cazorla than Ozil, and Coutinho hasn't had a season like Cazorla's in 2012. He's also a more versatile player, and just ridiculously productive.
Coutinho is good, but to be fair he hasn't had a season equal to any of the Spanish playmakers in the EPL, and is honestly a tier below them.

Not at all. Silva is number two and scores more than Ozil. They are both top 5 players in the EPL.
I love Silva.

IMO, I think Silva is better than Ozil week in and week out, but I will say that Ozil is terrifying when he's on form.
I couldn't fault someone though for thinking otherwise though.

What?
Maybe in the 5-1 game where he was walking around, giving the ball away and being downright pouty but I've always said he's a fantastic player.
Let's end this stupid thread. Right now, Ozil is better. K?
In the future? Who knows, I think Coutinho has more overall potential. Let's just let it die.

Messi isn't a #10 IMO...
Also, many LFC fans Ive talked to think Coutinho is more of a #8 and would be better suited a little deeper.. When I want to compare Coutinho to a WC player, I usually think Iniesta (and no, I don't think he's on his level)..

Ok man. Fair enough.
He's also 23, still plenty of time. I don't think I ever said he was on their level, I personally value him higher though. It's typical bias so you can relax.
He'll be off to Barcelona before we see the best of him anyway.

I know, I said that.
But he used to play across the front and in the hole a lot more when they played a more traditional setup.
Receiving the ball and turning, etc.
What about James? He had a stellar season. Don't think its fair to count him out.

Coutinho loves to shoot, which isn't a bad thing, but he's so obsessed with driving toward the back line the moment he gets a chance. He's sort of like Hazard in that way. I can't really see him deeper. I remember when he broke though with Inter he was deeper than a 10 but he seems like a natural 10. I could see him being an inverted winger.
