Toro is a world class mower company and make great products. I've own one for years without any major problems. Same thing can be said about Kohler engines. Mine has one and has been spectacular. But then again, I take care of my equipment.

It depends on the mower. The ones that come from Sears/Lowes are all made my MTD no matter what name is on it, Toro, Cub, Husqvarna, Murray, Deere.
You have to go to a dealer to get a mower that is made by the manufacturer, but that is an upgraded cost as well.

My dad got a toro push mower when I was 10, passed it on to me when I got my own place. I used that mower until I was 30 and even when I finally got a new mower the Toro still started by the 3rd pull and ran perfectly.
