I live in Oxford and tailgated at most games last year (There paying for my grad school is why I'm here). I can assure you that Lafayette County is not a "dry" county in any respects. There are both liquor stores and beer sold in every gas station. There is no rule of based on percentage of alcohol when it comes to drinking in the grove. The hard rule is simple: No alcoholic containers can be visible to the eye, thus you have to drink out of a cup whether it's beer or liquor/wine. You also have to transport the alcohol to your tailgate area in a cooler. I have seen several visiting fans walking with a case of beer and cops pour every single one out. Likewise I have seen many liquor bottles be poured out as well. Another rule they have (which I think is stupid) is that every cooler must have a lock on it. Most people screw a latch onto the cooler and use a pad lock. I have seen cops go around and check tents for open coolers and pour out all the alcohol contained therein if they are open. Most tents I saw last year also had "open flames" as well as everyone was grilling something.

tl;dr:
Oxford is not a dry county
You must drink all alcohol from a cup in the grove and alcoholic containers cannot be visible.
You CAN have an open flame in certain areas.
All coolers must have a lock on them and be locked at all times.

I mean not being a dick but there actually is a rule. Directly from Ole Miss website

LINK

quote:

5.Lafayette County is “dry” for beer and light wine (less than 5% alcohol by weight). Thus, distribution, possession, and consumption of beer and light wine is illegal in that portion of the University’s campus that lies outside of the City of Oxford

quote:

•Beer is technically not legal on the Ole Miss campus, but liquor is.

quote:

Since the outfield of Swayze Field is technically not on the Ole Miss campus, the aforementioned rule does not apply there - but only there, as one cannot expect to drink elsewhere in or around the stadium without reproach.

And to answer Cap Crunch from earlier, the way the law is written it appears all beer is illegal, and WINE uneder 4%
