In a semi-formal or former dinner setting with a small group (or one on one), yes--both when they leave and return.
Otherwise, no. That's what I remember from our fork and knife block of instruction.
To be honest to most people it will look a bit like you're making too much of a show of things. The practice started dying out with our parents' generation, so I imagine that most younger kids will look at you crazy. Your date will be impressed if she's traditional.
