Stevie Nicks or I've always loved Sheryl Crow for some odd reason.

Is she a musician? Can she play an instrument? Has she composed something solely on her own?

Serious question (not flaming).

Musician-A person who makes music as a profession, especially a performer of music.

Going off that premise, I think it's more than fair for her to be a answer.

If that´s the case, Mr. Online Quasi Webster, I need to pad my answer with another fifteen or so, before we get to Ms. Nicks.

I wasn't trying to be pompous and have at it.

Yes.

Tamborine and keys.

Yes. Most of her early solo work was lyrics and music by Stevie Nicks, although she had some collaborators and performed some "other" written songs as well.

As an example:

On Bella Donna, her debut solo album, of the 10 tracks she is the sole credited songwriter on 7 of them, wrote the lyrics on 2 of the remaining, and co-wrote the music on those same 2 songs. Benmont Tench is co-credited for the music on Kind of Woman. Roy Bittan is co-credited for the music on Think About It - and Tom Petty and Mike Campbell wrote the lyrics and music (respectively) to Stop Dragging My Heart Around.

Similar pattern on The Wild Heart, where she is the sole credited songwriter on 5 of the 10, with 1 Tom Petty song and Sandy Stewart providing the music for the remaining 4.

By Rock A Little, I think her coke habit was really out of hand. She wrote none of the music, but has sole credit for lyrics for 3 out of the 11 tracks, and co-wrote lyrics for 6 of the remaining 8.

Sure you didn't mean her sister Nancy? That's my girl.

I also love Ms Patricia Benatar.

I'm sure. However, Nancy and Benatar would be in my next group (probably with Debbie Harry).

That would probably make my top 5, then, Stevie Nicks, Ann Wilson, Nancy Wilson (obviously, I love me some Heart), Pat Benatar and Debbie Harry.

And I know, 4/5 are primarily vocalists. Deal with it.
