People are generally easy to read and you can make a quick judgement call on how you need to handle a given LEO. In my case, the gun is on top of my paperwork if I'm in my car so I don't have a choice. I'm not grabbing a gun if the cop doesn't explicitly state he's ok with it.

Professionalism and courtesy go a long way for both the officer and general public. I use common sense but err on the side of caution if I have any doubt when weapons are involved.
