“We as an organization would like to honor Morten for his great career as a Saint with everything he did for us on the field as well as being an outstanding ambassador in our community,” Benson said.  “He made so many big kicks for us throughout his career and is a great addition to our Ring of Honor.  Hopefully Morten’s next honor after this will take place in Canton to join the Pro Football Hall of Fame.”

“On behalf of the New Orleans Saints, I would like to congratulate Morten on being named to our club’s Ring of Honor,”  Saints Head Coach Sean Payton said.  “To kick 25 years in the NFL at such a high level and make so many game-winning kicks is a mark of elite consistency, reliability and mental toughness.  I was in New York with him in 2001 and had the opportunity to see Morten firsthand in part of what was a Hall of Fame career.”

Great. I loved this man as a child. Brought me many great memories but this nearly killed me.

We actually need him right now. Bet he could win the job in camp with the kicking woes we've had.

Of course that was the Saints' fault.

I remember he had a sports bar (I think in Lakeside Mall) that had the goal posts outside.

He don't tip.

We lost so many games because of him. Playing for the FG.. lost to fricking 49ers 21-20 or something every year.

I used to go out to Marconi meadows to kick and pretend I Morton Anderson kicking to win the game.

I made it half the time.

Andersen is definitively NFL HOF-worthy.

And he is NFL AfterGame HOF-worthy as well.

That dude could (and probably still does) pull some serious trim.

great Saint - it's weird when I look back that I remember some of his misses as much as I remember some of his makes though.

Couple I remember were a potential game winner v's San Francisco in our first playoff year and the potential game winner v's Atlanta in the playoffs. Also the FG that he didn't get to try in 1983 or 1984 v's the Rams in the Dome that would have clinched it, Bum was ultra conservative and Lansford knocked us out on the subsequent drive.

His most famous (as a Saint) were NYE v's the Rams to send us to the playoffs and a 60-yarder before halftime v's the Bears which for some reason was like the longest field goal in eons back then. Nobody tried long FG's in that period from the mid 80's to the mid 90's.
