Any Oil Field people here gotten laid off? What have you done to get a job?

So brief background here, I got my PETE degree from LSU and have been working at Halliburton the past 2 years and 2 months as a Field Engineer. Management came in last week and laid off all the engineers in our office except our Lead Engineer, which included myself. I was a little shocked but it is what it is.
For anybody here that has unfortunately lost their job in this downturn, have you managed to find a job in the upstream side of Oil & Gas? If so what did you do to attain a new position in this market? I have updated my LinkedIn (even bought the Premium Version), gotten an account on glassdoor, been looking on Rig Zone and reaching out to my contacts in the industry plus networking, etc..? I know it's going to be tough in this market to find a job especially with only 2 years experience. I have seen quite a few operators hiring for Drilling or Production Engineering Tech positions. Even though I might be over qualified I'm thinking this might be a good route to look at to 1. stay in the industry and weather the storm and 2. It could open a door for me to get in with an operator and get a full time engineer position once the price of oil comes back. Anybody know of this working?
Any type of advice is much appreciated. I'm just trying to think of some ideas here.
Also to go ahead and get this out of the way.....I don't own an F250, nor have I ever bought any truck nuts or Salt Life Apparel, I do own a Yeti though

It's gonna get rough in oil and gas. Try looking in SWLA (lake Charles) I hear there will be plenty of jobs.

Should've majored in something useful, not something worthless akin to basket weaving.

Are you willing to relocate? I hear they still hire in North Dakota if you have a degree.

I've sold truck nuts for the last 9 years.
I was terminated last week. Thinking about going to law school. Is 161 a good enough LSAT score to get into Southern in Baton Rouge?

Check Halliburton in Bossier. Lots of work coming into the Arcadia/Ruston area. Wildhorse is steadily bringing in rigs - Terryville Field.

What division do you work in? Is it mostly land work? All layoffs I've heard of with service companies came several months back. I see more coming, but havent heard of any actually happening. This would be the first in a while.
I am busy through the end of the year, but worry about after. We just promoted someone to the group I work in, so I'm goping that means they don't see us downsizing soon. I'll run the numbers and turn the wrenches if I have to. Just want to make it through the tunnel. I have a feeling the light at the end will be very bright for those that make it through, but you just have to make it.

You are over qualified (on paper), but you could always get on downstream as a plant operator. What that could lead to is an admin position (in engineering) with an O&G company.

The OT doesn't believe that the oilfield actually employs educated individuals. Don't come here with this foolishness

Not for administrative assistants with large tah tahs.

My shop in Williston is sure to close soon. No work and $8k/month rent.
We just shut down the shop in Pennsylvania.

Might as well include plant ops also. The OT thinks that all plant operators have to work 6000 hours of OT to make good money and that all operators are high school drop outs.
