First, why say it even if it is true other than to put blame on the player. And second, players make these types of comments often during summer meetings in some form or another. They say they want to play every day. They say the want the chance to be an every starter... to more straight forward. Like, I'm in my 3rd year. I think I should start every day. And coaches usually just coach speak their way out of it. These kids go back home and hear how great they are how few chances they get. So a coach usually just brushes off this talk. The goal is to get as many people into fall and let things play out there. You don't have to tell the player that specifically.
