The title isn't a spoiler or anything.
Reading the book right now and didn't know this was gonna happen. Sweet.
then why click on a thread about a book that's been out for 40 years? ...

Yea I was thinking the same thing originally. My smart arse self had many comments in line, but I decided not to go that route. But it would have been something like this....
Stay away from my next thread titled "Shawshank: Could Andy REALLY build a tunnel to escape and hide it behind girly posters for nearly 20 years unbeknownst to the guards? "
...or something like that.

No problem! The book is a great read, won a pulitzer. I highly recommend it.

Gus said "you might want to know I got Lori back" Jake said "who"
That kind of made Jake's dying a little bit easier for me.

The book is 30 years old. What would you think is a reasonably accepted time to not have to worry about spoilers on the internet?

This thread made me rewatch the movie. Damn, I forgot how excellent it is. It really brings on the feels.

Yea it's about the finest thing ever filmed in my opinion. Watching it brings back GREAT memories as a kid watching it with my grandparents. I think my grandmother had it bad for ole Gus, ha.

I sometimes wish McMurty would have written the books in order so that everything could have been filmed in order starting with Dead Man's Walk and finishing with Streets of Laredo. Then I think would we appreciate the cinema that was Lonesome Dove it that had happened?
For instance had I experienced David Arquette as Gus in Dead Man's Walk I probably never would have watched LD.

Up there with Band of Brothers for top honors for me.

I've never seen the other mini series, are they worth a look?

Comanche Moon is the only I thought was decent, and it wasn't anywhere close to LD caliber. Steve Zahn plays a decent young Gus, and Karl Urban was the only one of any to pull off a decent Call.

Absolutely not.
Read the books instead.

Didn't think so. Mat give CM a look and see what it's like.

As others have said, none of the other mini series were worth much. Zahn did play a good Gus, however.
You just can't beat Duvall and Jones in those roles.

One of my favorite lines in the movie
"Your the kind of man it's a pleasure to hang. If all you can talk is guff, you go talk it to the devil"
Hey folks, first time I ever posted on this board. Came over here, did a little searching to see what the board's opinion was of ol' Lonesome Dove, and this is where I wound up.
Anyway, regarding quotes associated w/the demise of one Mr. Jake Spoon, you're right - the quite you gave is a GREAT quote. My FAV quote though, regarding Jake, is not actually spoken AT his demise scene.
It's when Call tells July Johnson that "he fell in with a bad bunch and we had to hang him." Kinda shook July up - or at least told him how tough the crew he'd come up on was.

My brother and I laugh at that quote. Call ain't got no time for the bs. July realized what lawmen loomed like when he met McCrae and Call.
