Heroin is an opiate so yes if you do enough you will become physically addicted, as to whether or not you become an addict is up for debate.

He wasn't saying all people will get hooked. He was just saying the people who do get hooked will have their lives ruined 100% of the time

And as far as addiction being linked to social stimuli and not the actual drug, I'd say that depends on which drug. Uppers/party drugs like coke or X? Sure I could see that. But opiates like heroin or oxy? It's definitely the actual drug and the physical dependence that plays the biggest role
