Well, I can comfortably make a 12hr drive each day. I can do plenty more without a problem. No problem with that. If I went up that way, I could hit the grand canyon, Hoover dam, and Vegas in one trip.
I don't look like a rich, preppy white dude, so I'm not that worried about going to Mexico for a little while. I'll be by myself driving my truck
*Keep in mind that I will be driving there and back

Drive to Amarillo on Day 1 then you can make it to Vegas the next day.
I made the drive once. Left BR at midnight, got to Amarillo at about 1pm. Crashed for 4 hr in Amarillo then got up and drove and saw the sun coming up when we pulled into Vegas.

Don't drive your vehicle over the border. There are stories of US citizens vehicles getting impounded in Mexico.
I've driven back and forth between NOLA and Southern California a bunch of times. If you want to cross the border, take I10, stop in Ft Stockton your first night, then continue on 10 to I8, which you will come to in Casa Grande, AZ
Take I8 to San Diego, park your vehicle in one of the many parking lots right on the border by Tijuana. The lots have a shuttle bus that brings you right across the border, drops you off a few blocks inside Mexico, and walk around Tijuana. Coming back into the US, you go through Customs, walk out a side door to the shuttle bus and it brings you back to your car. Make sure you have your drivers license or passport with you on your return to US or they won't let you back in. A guy I went with once lost his wallet in Tijuana and he was SOL when we went through customs. It's worth going to the border to see the cluster**** that it is. Thousands of people and cars crossing everyday.
Take I5 from San Diego to LA. Very scenic drive.
If you want to go to Vegas, take I15 from LA to Las Vegas. Not that far a drive.
I love driving the I10/ I8 route.

Bye bye. You may not die but your life expectancy definitely drops for a couple of days. Let that soak in for a minute or two.
