What's normal cruising speed for a F-16? Even at what I'd consider to be a relatively slow speed for a jet fighter - 300 or 350 kph - it's covering a mile in 8 or 10 seconds. At 600 knots, it's down to about 5 seconds.

CBS Evening News is reporting that the collision happened between 2,000' and 3,000'. The pilot, Erin Johnson (I believe), has about 1,500 hours.
