So in my frustration at our lack of striker depth I'm going back and looking at some of the lineups we put out last year to see what we can do.
I don't know why it seems fans have given up on Ramsey-Coquelin pairing. They played together vs. West Ham last year and we won 3-0. Ramsey was bloody brilliant. Goal, assist, distributed well. Theo started on the right and was very dangerous. Wasteful, but dangerous.
Even though Ramsey is still effective on the right, I think we need to ditch that barring emergency injury crisis.
Play Ramsey and Coq in the middle. Put either Ox or Theo wide right, Alexis on the left, Giroud up top. Santi is depth for Mesut or rotating with Ramsey.
The key in that game was Per. He made the passes through the lines to Ozil that Cazorla makes at the moment.

play Theo, Alexis, or Campbell out of position
Wouldn't necessarily lump Campbell in with them. I think he could be really good. He has a lot of tendencies/attributes that may make him suited for the role. Really good holdup play as opposed to the other two and he's stronger in the air.
Sanchez is strong and draws fouls like Campbell, but dribbles too much to be the optimal choice in most cases. Theo isn't strong enough and relies too much on off-ball runs requiring more spacing. He's liable to get a hat trick against an outmatched backline playing catchup, but in most instances, he's overpowered and removed from the game too much to be reliable as a true CF.
He may turn out to be a preferred opion to Giroud in certain instances. Giroud has very good holdup play and has great touch for his size, but his flicks kind of mask how slow he is on the ball IMO. He can sometimes get a good turn if he has a little bit of space, but in other facets, he's just not quick enough. Every forward is certainly limited when teams bunker like they have against us this year, but Giroud has been mitigated a lot.
I have a feeling that Campbell is the perfect balance of strength and quickness to challenge teams bunkering against us, and is going to give teams fits. Wenger has a track record of developing forwards out of former wingers. I'm pretty excited to see what he does this year in Welbeck's absence.

Campbell got a few chances last season. Was dreadful.
Didn't do shite on loan.
Striker options likely go Giroud, Theo, then Alexis.
Guys I think we jinxed Welbz.

Wow, so much for challenging for the title this year. Can't believe we didn't bring in a single outfielder, especially since they knew about Welbecks injury
Damn we can be a reactionary bunch, like Welbeck was the difference between us challenging or not.

Whats the status of Ozil for Saturday?
Ozil should be fine after the break. He was training with Germany yesterday.

Stoke.
Thankfully they will be without two of the larger counts in their team that like to kick the shite out of our players

And Wenger was reluctant to give him chances the first part of the season. As soon as Welbeck came and Walcott returned, I thought he would be sold in the winter.
I think the only reason Wenger kept him was because of his WC performance and the hope of a bigger bid, and now he kept him because he needs an emergency striker. I'd be very surprised if he even gets a game.

He was a glorified wingback and did fine.

In 16 La Liga starts he scored 1 goal ( which was a crap goal) and had 0 assists

Like I said, he played on the wing because of his defending and supposedly didn't go forward much at all.
Playing Sanchez at CF against PL teams bunkering sounds asinine to me.

I'd rather play him there instead of Joel fricking Campbell of all players.
shite I'd rather play Ozil as a false 9 then rely on Campbell as a starting CF option.
I'd rather recall Sanogo.

As is playing Campbell against bunkering teams. He only plays striker for CR and I've seen nothing in his game that makes me think he's our key against teams that bunker. I hope he does suceed but my guess is that he goes on loan.

I still find it hard to get past Campbell's dive against the USMNT that got Besler(?) a yellow.
But his goal against Man U made me forget most of that incident.

I mostly wish Kroneke would be more of a sugar daddy. I mean, we sorta have that Wal-Mart money. Just pay down our debt. Or guarantee our debt so we have an extra 25 to spend. It kills me that all this talk about 2013 when the new deals kick in, we only have 50 mil to spend each window, more or less.
So is it money, the market, or Wenger's penny pinching transfer strategy that's holding us back?

He got Besler his second yellow. So frick Campbell. And how the hell is he supposed to go from wingback to starting at hold up striker in the PL? I like you Lou and you make solid arguments usually but I want some of whatever it is you were smoking when you typed that and pressed enter.

I kinda thought Welbeck could be a difference maker for us this year. He does so many things well. His finishing has been very good for England. If that translates to the club level he could be a title winning no. 9.

No, but having a warm body to put in there if giroud is hurt would probably be a good idea.
