The Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am professional baseball league have offered Odell Beckham a contract. It's the deadest part of the NFL calendar, in case you couldn't tell. A video surfaced of Beckham throwing a softball 80-some odd miles an hour, and the Boulders came calling. "We think that getting experience pitching to professional hitters will give [Beckham] the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson," said Boulders GM Shawn Reilly. The Boulders want Beckham to report to spring training next May. Good one, Boulders. Good joke. Source: Lohud.com Jul 1 - 10:00 AM

Agreed! Have to think it's just for publicity like R. Wilson and the Texas Rangers!

Odell grew up going to a small, white private school. he's never been "on the streets" to go back to them

Why would OBJ not want to do this?

Did Chad Jones ever pursue minor league baseball?

Two things will keep this from happening. First, minor league contracts aren't in the same ballpark as what he's already making, so I doubt it's really worth his time. Second, his current employer would probably not like it, and I would presume there's probably a clause in his contract restricting him from participating in other professional leagues for sake of injury. Could be wrong though.
But it would be really cool for LSU to get the extra publicity. Wonder if OBJ could become a decent enough hitter... if he even hits .200 he could be extremely dangerous on the basepaths for a team. I'm sure he'd probably immediately excel as an outfielder too.

So I met some guy at an airport a while back that was from New York and was a Giants fan. He noticed my LSU shirt and started raving to me about OBJ. He then said "hopefully he can stay out of trouble, given his rough childhood in New Orleans." He clearly knows nothing about his childhood or what kind of school Newman is.

I would have put his arse in check but glad he is doing big things at the next level.

OBJ grew up on the mean streets of St. Charles

quote:This I am aware of, but "on the streets" doesn't have to be his home town. By no means am I saying he is a thug or hangs around the wrong crowd, but time on the field (Baseball, football, soccer, or whatever) always increases your chances of staying away from trouble. There is a lot of spot light pointing at him right now, and the media would love nothing more then to write about an incident that OBJ was involved in.

Say what you like, but you know I'm right about this

just shut up. he's as likely to get in trouble during a baseball road trip than he is during the offseason. odell has never been in trouble in his life. the offseason will not increase his odds. just stop

Something is telling you wrong. Percentages work in favor of any athlete if that athlete stays working on perfecting his tool. Baseball and Football are two different sports, but you have to COMPETE in both

I think Goodell should make the NFL season a year round thing. The games are still during the same timeframe, but they practice literally year round. We can't let these delinquents out of our sights for a second.
