For me it was the door bell camera and would like to add a camera or two in the backyard. Somewhat interested in the door lock and thermostat.

I know for me, it was the doorbell camera. That and being able to unlock my house remotely from my phone would be nice.
There's a thread somewhere in the past couple of weeks about doorbell cameras. I think it discussed 2 or 3 different products. For the locks, Schlage Connect has been the most talked about on here. Kwickset has a version also. Both work with the Wink app.
A little more info about Wink. Wink is interconnected with Home Depot. I've had some mixed feelings on the relationship. Home Depot must be paying them for an exclusive retail deal. Is Home Depot also paying them to restrict the functionality?
Lowe's has a smart hub called Iris. There hasn't been any discussion on here about Iris, probably because Wink has had some great deals, so we've all gone with it.
Back to the original point of this thread. Everything Vivint can do for $60 per month can be done without a monthly fee. The more threads that talk about home automation, the more ideas that come up that others haven't thought of. This thread made me go look at the Envisalink forums where I read about a guy that created an app that has a plugin to the Automateit app, so that when his phone connects to his house wifi, his alarm system is automatically disarmed.

Thanks for info, it's been very helpful. Will some research and do it myself. I live in good neighborhood, but would like to have a extra eye for when away.

What company do you use?
i use Guardian Alarm in Shreveport. They use DMP alarm products. They offer an app and z-wave support. I got the z-wave module, but haven't hooked anything up to it yet so I can't comment on that. App is pretty handy though. I can see when alarm was armed/disarmed as well as arm/disarm remotely. There are a few other things you can do with it but I haven't played around with it much yet.

Have been with Vivint for about a year now, love the service much better than ADT. More updated equipment and its wireless unlike ADT which still uses your phone connection.

They were kicked out of Louisiana for operating illegally once.. Should tell you all you need to know
They suck.
They staked out every house in my neighborhood and irritated everyone. Had to call STPSO to get them run off.
They have little shitty cars with illegal tint, but they have a "permit".
Did I say they suck yet?
