Well, I believe if college baseball made some significant changes to improve the sport, then it could compete a little better with college football and the final four. Instead, it is in the ballpark of lacrosse and softball.

college baseball is very much a regional sport. Actually MLB baseball is too. Outside of the Dodgers, Red Soxs and Yankees most stadiums struggle to fill their stadiums even on Weekend nights. Nation wide baseball just isn't as popular as Basketball and Football. The simple fact is that they are more exciting sports, we can't ignore that face.

But back to college baseball. Really other than Arkansas LSU MSU and Ole Miss no-one really cares that much about baseball. I remember LSU playing Vandy last year, a huge anticipated series, I don't think Vandy sold out their stadium. Florida also struggles to sell out their stadium. LSU baseball is one of the fan bases that really closely follow their team, and travel to support them. We are one of the few schools that probably has a bigger following of baseball than basketball. EVERYWHERE ELSE basketball gets more attention than baseball, well maybe except Cal State Fullerton.

Exactly. Wouldn't college baseball be better if people actually cared about it outside of a few schools?

Much of this is related to historical results of other institutions' teams and other sports winning traditions. UF, football and basketball, etc. I would believe with Vandy's recent 2-year run their attendance might be considerably improved, especially against visiting highly ranked programs. It didn't hurt LSU baseball that the basketball Tigers endured very sporadic success for years while baseball overall performed quite while.

I watched a good bit of game 2 of the UVA/VU championship series, the low scoring 3-0 game went like 3:40, the slow down the last two innings was trying my patience and I like baseball. The UVA pitching coach took forever to get some calls into the catcher, probably on purpose to disrupt Vandy's hitters. If I never hear the name "Sborz" again it is fine with me, it must have been uttered 1,000x over the air in the last week.
