Around Baton Rouge. I've been by Backpacker and Massey's. Is Pack and Paddle in laffy any better?

I think Pack and Paddle is better than Backpacker and Masseys.
What kayak brands are you looking at?

Looking at Jackson, Nucanoe and KC. Would like something to fit two, possibly three so I can take my kids out every once in awhile.

Maybe you might want to check out a canoe.

I'd rather a kayak. wouldn't be fishing with the kids. Just paddling around. I think something like the Big Tuna would fit my needs.

You definitely get that feeling at the Massey's in B.R.; it's like the whole upstairs area was an afterthought and none of the staff seem to like climbing stairs!
I hear the store down in New Orleans and in Slidell are the complete opposite and their service is top notch. Backpacker has excellent customer service and most of the staff is knowledgeable about the products they sell. Unfortunately for you, Backpacker doesn't carry Jackson or Nucanoe.
Massey's doesn't carry Nucanoe's either; to look at them, you will have to take a trip over to Lafayette. (Pack and Paddle) Good news is that it is worth the trip; knowledgeable staff and they hold weekly demos (by appointment)to help you narrow it down. They carry both the kayaks you are thinking about, so my suggestion would be to give them a call, let them know which ones you are thinking about and then head over there Saturday morning and try them out!

Yes, Pack & Paddle is better. They also have frequent beer and gear days and try out days for kayaks. They will set you up and show you where to fish. (I don't work there and don't have a kayak.)

Call tomorrow, let them know you are coming, which models you are interested in and ask what models they'd also suggest. They will load them up and meet you Saturday morning and allow you to demo them all, free of charge. They're also great people to deal with.
