i know nothing about investing really, but i put 5% of each paycheck into TSP. I am currently just rolling with the government funds, but i'd like to make as much as possible.
anyone have any info on one of the other plans?

I'm retired military.
They started TSP after I had about 10 years in service.
I maxed it every year because their index funds and life cycle funds are the lowest cost products I've ever seen.

C just followed the S&P
S mimics the Dow
I for foreign stocks
F bond funds
Not sure how far from retirement you are. So that makes a difference. There are also target retirement date funds if you don't want to adjust on your own every so often.
Otherwise just balance most in C S and F. Maybe your age as the percentage that goes into F

I'm 30. The wife and I would like to buy our first house soon so making some extra money in the savings plan would be ideal.

I'm at:
43% C
38% S
15% I
2% F
2% G
Edit: If I didn't have so much allocated to large-cap funds outside of my TSP, I'd probably be around 65% C and 15% S

I'm 60% C, 20% S and 20% I
(And that is what Dave Ramsey recommends, FWIW.)
