American Greed was the only reason to watch CNBC in prime time

Shark Tank is like some competition you'd do in high school, except the judges are even bigger tools.. I couldn't care less about some douchebag going around trying to make buying and selling used cars seem like edge of your seat television. Marcus Lemonas may be good at what he does, but he's an a-hole and I'd enjoy punching him in the face. Probably a couple more meh offerings out there too I've neglected to mention.

I've seen so many episodes, Stacy Keach narrates my thoughts.

The worst of the worst were the three lawyers who ripped off their clients over the Fen-Fen settlement. Those people had terminal illnesses and were counting on the money to live on.
The weirdest was the boy band manager who conned people into investing their 401K's in his bands.
I like to think I'm too savvy to get taken in by one of these grifters, but who knows.

American Greed is good, but I do like the profit too

The only episode of The Profit I've seen was the Fuel Foods one. Lemonas didn't come across as an a-hole in that one at least.
The meathead who ran the company didn't think it was a big deal that his main investor was implicated in a Ponzi scheme. When Lemonas found out, he pulled his offer.

The only episode tgat really engrossed me was Rita Crundwell.
She was a local girl who got a job as a secretary at city hall, eventually gets herself appointed Treasurer and embezzles millions over a period of years to fund her horse breeding hobby. No one ever questioned her numbers, they just believed they were the only town in America that never experienced any kind of econic recovery, while she's building her ranch and traveling the country to show horses.
$53 million dollars in public money to fund her lifestyle.

Addictive as hell. I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago about this show saying in a twisted sort of way I admired the unbridled moxie of these people. It is the American spirit channeled in a more sinister direction.

That one dude in Washington or wherever that was making false energy renewal numbers or something and the only reason he got caught is becuase his neighboors complained tot he city that all his porches and ferrari's were blocking the middle class suburban street and no one could get in or out
oh and the dude who faked his death by jumping out of an airplane and crashing the plane in the woods to make the FBI think he was dead

I've enjoyed a number of episodes of The Profit. I don't find Marcus to be an a-hole at all. He's usually dealing with people who have highly questionable business acumen. At times he's shown he has a very decent side in the way he seems personally offended in the way some of the employers treat their most valued employees, who are often the very people keeping the doors to some of the places open through their own personal sacrifices.
To be successful in business you have to make tough decisions and stick to them. Maybe some people think that's being an a-hole, but at the end of the day his businesses make money and the people that do buy into his process seem to be the better for it and they don't seem to dislike him personally. Quite the opposite, actually.

Just saw that one. Wtf was wrong with those scumbag fricks? They were going to get like $60mm, why did they have to steal another $60mm from sick and dying people? Holy shite the greed was ridiculous. Those morons are sitting in jail instead of their mansions. $60mm legally wasn't enough

quote:He's anything but an a-hole. He's got tact and class. He confronts crap that business owners just don't want to admit to. The episode about Fuel Foods was on the mark and he reminds us that we always have the option to walk away. a-hole? Check out the guy on the right. There's your fast-talking, narcissistic, sociopathic a-hole.
