The nautical roots description made me
I work in advertising, and can tell you that the way creative or concepts are positioned to make them sellable and deep is straight bullshite. They likely had a loose brief to follow, and then came up with a bunch of designs, went with what they thought was unique, and then retrofit the description to match the brief.
"we've got a line here that we like...how do we explain this?"
"well, it could be argued that that looks like a horizon. And it's blue, so...ocean? Nautical stuff? Works for me."
Though I do like the trend of logos getting more simple (Brooklyn, Milwaukee, etc).
ETA: I thought the stupid trend of forcing black (because it's "trendy" and "edgy") into every new logo design was done...unfortunately not. But I give exactly zero fuqs about the clippers.
