I'm mostly concerned with keeping my shite locked up from drunk friends and meth heads. If my house burns down or a pile of professionals break in while I'm on a week long work trip I'll have bigger problems than loosing some guns and tax returns.

I want the best I can get for $1000. I only have 6 long guns and no intention to buy more. Two of them are extremely cheap and don't have to go in there.

$1k will certainly keep out drunks amd tweakers. But like everyone says, buy bigger.

That right there tells me one of those "composite" big box safes will do more than what you need. Even the flimsy big box safes that are bolted to the floor are virtually indestructible unless a robber knows what you have and plans to bring a torch cutter with him.
