The Astros LOVE Bregman's bat. They'll worry about position later. Truthfully though, the club is overloaded with infielders. Carlos Correa and Jose Altuve are going to be major leaguers for a very long time. The club also has Tony Kemp the former Vanderbilt 2B who is leading AA in batting average and on base %. They have Kemp playing 2B and all the outfield positions. They also have Colin Moran a 2011 Top 5 pick of the Marlins at AA 3B and AJ Reed the former SEC player of the year tearing the cover off the ball at 1B.
IF Bregman is going to be a long term piece with the Astros, he probably will have to put perform Colin Moran and/or Tony Kemp. It is plausible that the Astros could move Correa to 3B to make room for Bregman or potentially trade Altuve if they think Bregman or Kemp is an adequate replacement. I have no doubt that Bregman will have a long major league career, even if it is not with the Astros.

Is Bregman the highest drafted position player in LSU baseball history?
I know Ben McDonald was the #1 overall pick but if I'm not mistaken Bregman is the highest position player, right?

quote:You know MLB baseball. The Stros most likely took Bregs as complete trade bait in the next year or so. Houston has a loaded young team, that maybe the favorites to win it all next year. What they are doing by taking Bregs is taking the best available player, in order to use him and other top prospects to trade for veteran players that can help them win instantly in the next few years.
