Here's an article which attempts to explain.......It all begins with enforcement & education both of which are sorely lacking!!!

Closing the area is a dead end solution & doesn't fix anything.......If they can do it here.....just watch where else they are going to try.....There's a ton of liberal idiots out there who don't want people to fish/hunt etc.

PEW Foundation, PETA ad nauseum.....They are organized, work well together & are well funded. If the recreational & commercial fishing interests would work together rather than constantly fighting....this would be a huge positive step in the right direction...IMHO

Well, that's incorrect, lots of research shows increases in biomass and numbers in no-fishing areas. The closed area would likely become a source population where fishes migrate to other areas where fishing is allowed. Fishing is not being closed in the entire park.

But like you said, enforcement and education are sorely needed.
