Released in 1991, no marketing, independent label, not even a name on the artwork. Really obscure release. This is one of the best albums of the 90s in my opinion. The true essence of post rock. Sadly this was their last album.

Nope, but sounds cool. Will listen.

It's very unique. It's post rock without the drawn out orchestral interludes and droning noise. Slint only uses rock instruments to achieve the same amount of atmosphere. Spiderland has some balls too. There's a lot of old hardcore and no wave influence here.

As you said, one of the best and most important releases of the 90s. Pitchfork reviewed it when it got reissued. Their review does a nice job of providing background and context.

Slint seems to always be on Critics "Best band of the 90's you've never heard of" lists. Vinyl prices will back that up.

it's essential listening... I got to see them again last summer out in LA and they were great!
On a side note David Pajo attempted suicide earlier this year (or maybe late last) because of hs wife's infidelity... kind of played out online..

Also, the "family tree" out of Squirrel bait, then Slint is pretty impressive... really great bands in the 90s post punk scene.. Louisville, KY

I remember the first time I heard Good morning Captain. Blew my mind.
Some dude named Adrian played it for me at the local college radio station.

That song and Breadcrumb Trail are ridiculously good bookend tracks.

I was about to say the same thing as TFTC about Squirrel Bait. Every now and then you run into somebody who's familiar with them and they always say it's some of their favorite stuff ever. The first record and "Tape From California" are fantastic. Nirvana before there was a Nirvana.

Good Morning Captian is such an awesome closer. The "I Miss You" screams at the end are pretty intense.

Giving it a listen now on Spotify. Thanks for sharing!

This is one of the greatest of all time. Certainly the best post/math rock album ever. Slint had such a unique sound.
ETA: listening to Washer now- brilliantly dark, harrowing song
