Pier Fishing at Grande Isle

Last week I finally went Pier Fishing in Gulf Shores for the first time. Quite possibly, it was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. Over the course of a couple of days, I hooked a nice Jack, a shark, and had a plethora of others get away.
So, now I got the fever and wanted to give the Grande Isle Pier a try.
Anyone ever fish out there? What types do they catch and on what baits?

What types
Usually alot of mexican-types and white trash-types out there.
Oh you meant fish? The couple times I've walked the peir I've only seen people catching big reds, catfish, and a shark. I've heard of people actually catching a bunch of trout there but I've never seen it done in person.

Last storm deposited a lot of sand at G.I. State Park pier. Not deep enough to fish now. Rocks a couple of hundred yards before are fishable.

Never had much luck on the pier, can be a bit crowded for my liking. But I've taken my son and his buddies and I usually sit in a lawn chair and watch them catch. Caught a few specs, few whites and every now and then they hook a bull red and enjoy the fight. We probably don't stay late enough for the good fishing on the pier. Most of the good catches I've heard from people happen much later than I wanna fish.
They will free line live shrimp for trout or cracked crab on the bottom for bull reds...

You can catch 8 inch white trout all night off the bridgeside pier
Bigger specks show up in the fall

Biggest trout I ever caught was off of the pier. It was just over 5lbs. An old man let me use his crab net to pull it up.
