Fun drives in America

My favorites that I have done:
Baton Rogue-Mobile: Just make sure you go on the scenic route that hugs the gulf instead of I-10
Fort Worth-Amarillo: Saw people put this one in the boring thread, but I like it. Once you pass Wichita Falls, you start to enter a small town's main street about once every 30 minutes, which IMO makes it go by faster.
Amarillo-Denver: I like this drive, especially as it starts to get mountainous in northeastern New Mexico and if the conditions are right you get a good look at the Sangre de Cristo Mountains when you pass into Colorado
Salt Lake City-Denver: This drive is fun and scenic in the wintertime, though if you can get in on a clear day in the summer its fun too, especially when you get into the Rockies, but I just prefer the look of snow covered mountains. Make sure to do it when the sun is out - I have done it at night and it sucks because you can't see any of the amazing scenery
San Diego-Phoenix: Something is appealing about driving along the border and seeing all the security and drones. At some points on this route you are within spitting distance of the border "fence"
Flagstaff-Phoenix: Love this drive, its pretty much all downhill from a mountain into a valley and runaway truck ramps galore. Don't even need to use the gas, just put it in neutral
New York City-Cape Cod MA: Relaxing drive with nice scenery and interesting stops along the way

I always make it a point to go I-70 through the Rockies in Colorado, might take a bit longer but the drive is much more entertaining and plus you have mountain towns like Vail to stop at if you choose to do so

Did both of these last Summer on the way up to Montana. Fort Worth to Amarillo was pretty damn boring, not fun. Amarillo into New Mexico was terrible as well... once you started getting into the mountains I think it's a pretty solid drive though.

Asheville-Knoxville (Going through the Smoky Mountains)
Chattanooga-Nashville (Going over Nickajack lake, through Monteagle and Sewanee)
Santa Fe-Taos (Not a long drive, but gorgeous. You follow the Rio Grande for a good ways)
Savannah-Charleston (very nice going through the Lowcountry)

Awesome drive, but be sure your passenger(s) aren't prone to car sickness. If they are, be sure to dope them up with Dramamine.

I've Jeeped most of the trails in the San Juans. Black Bear Pass, Engineers Pass, Imogene Pass. My favorite part of Colorado.

You don't like the small town charm of Quanah, Childress, Memphis, and Clarendon?
I can easily see why people don't like it. But I have done it so many times its not a big deal. When I would do Fort Worth-Albuquerque, the first 5 hours were much more enjoyable IMO than the last 4 hours in eastern New Mexico which sucks arse.

The only part I liked were the signs at one little store
"Cute Texas Stuff"
"Darn Good Candy"
"We're More Than Just Nuts"
Only good part of that drive

Lafayette to Baton Rouge: Taking I-10 between these two great American cities reveals the beautiful terrain in South Louisiana. Also take note of the wonderful interstate design that ensures very little traffic will interfere with your experience.
