Let's assume Mardi Gras for colors and the name Tigers comes from The Tiger regiment out of New Orleans during the Civil War.

It's kinda funny that Gold means Power and Purple is justice, but more or less means royalty. Kinda funny that LSU is Purple and Gold and Tulane is green which represents faith

it's still a very generic nickname, I don't see Tigers roaming around in Louisiana. It is the most used nickname in Sports. I am guessing why yall use the term Bayou Bengals. And the term Geaux was used by UL before LSU even thought of it.

So you attach your own meaning to the color purple and think something is funny ??? A little revisionist, don't you think? Yes, purple represents royalty in some cases but not in the Mardi Gras one. Green also stands for money, why didn't you mention that?

It is futile to attempt to reason with you. Go ahead and claim a fraudulent name. Most of the state and all of the nation will call you ULL and you can learn to live with it or not. Then just watch the game and see how the announcers and the sports channels list you. No one will call you anything but ULL. Sorry

Most places in Louisiana don't have Cajun influences, either

Let's assume?

That's like starting a discussion on the War on Terror with, "let's assume that it was terrorists who flew those planes into the World Trade Center."

There's not much to assume.

You know there was a time when the mantra out of LSU was that there would only be ONE black player on each basketball team and if you don't like it watch what will happen

And we didn't like it so ahead of our time we recruited a large number of black athletes and for a period of about 5 years we were a true national power.... That fact is indisputable...

So as is your pattern, your behind the scenes powers went into action and a very good man... Beryl Shipley.... basically lost his job forever... we had our program taken away for two years...

Yes LSU does wield that sort of power in this state and we all know it.... But right ultimately prevails... black players now dominate athletics at LSU and elsewhere...

Times change and sometimes even LSU can't change the inevitable... We WILL continue the fight for our branded name... We will not stop... Legislate away... bit by bit it IS happening

From Wikipedia, please tell me what this has to do with LSU.......

In 1966, Shipley recruited three black players, thus becoming the first collegiate coach in the Deep South to have black players on his team. In a region where Jim Crow was a way of life well into the 1960s—long after most Jim Crow laws were formally repealed—Shipley faced intense criticism and opposition for trying to integrate his teams. However, he said years later that he was tired of telling good players that he couldn't sign them because of an unwritten Gulf States Conference rule forbidding black players on conference teams. When state officials barred state money from being used to fund the scholarships for the players, Shipley had area black leaders chip in enough money to pay the players' way.[2] However, this violated an NCAA rule against players receiving financial assistance from outside their family. In 1968, partly due to this, the Ragin' Cajuns were slapped with two years' probation and barred from postseason play during that time.[3]

Shipley didn't take long to recover from the probation, however. In 1972, the Ragin' Cajuns jumped to Division I, finished in the top 10 of most major polls and advanced all the way to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, becoming the first school to make the tournament in its first year of eligibility. They repeated this feat in 1973. However, a month after the tournament, Shipley abruptly resigned. That August, the NCAA found Southwestern Louisiana guilty of more than 125 violations. Most of them involved small cash payments to players, letting players borrow coaches' and boosters' cars, letting players use university credit cards to buy gas and buying clothes and other objects for players. However, the most severe violations involved massive academic fraud. The NCAA found that one of Shipley's assistants had altered a recruit's high school transcript and forged the principal's signature, and others close to the program had arranged for surrogates to take college entrance exams for prospective recruits. The NCAA responded by scrubbing the Ragin' Cajuns' 1972 and 1973 appearances from the books and shutting the program down for two years—only the second time that the NCAA had ever punished a school with the so-called "death penalty," and to date the only multi-season cancellation ever handed down to a Division I member in any sport.[2][4]

Don't worry, in a couple years we will play each other in something else and we can have the exact same argument all over again.

mmm don't think so junior

Despite consistently putting out quality basketball teams and endearing himself to the community, Shipley had to contend with an unlikely opponent, Louisiana segregationists who were hell-bent on curbing athletic integration in Shipley’s program.

“Slam Dunked” reveals for the first time the questionable procedures and allegations of the NCAA. Newly discovered documents, dating back three decades show the NCAA’s actions abetting those of the racially motivated Louisiana State Board of Education and other segregationists who were determined to punish those responsible for integrating athletics in the state.

It also says Shipley was tired of the Gulf South conference telling him what do do with black players, how does that equate to him being upset about LSU's policy and acting on it?? Junior?

My plee to tiger fans..

Yes it is fun getting these coon asses all fired up. But......

As LSU fans we should not give one frick about what ULL decides to call themselves. LSU or LSU A&M(once again we are not ashamed of our name, unlike UL at Lafayatte) secured their place in college athletics(this is a sports forum WDGAF about other stuff) a long time ago. I say let them be University of Louisiana. That won't change the level of domination LSU holds over them in every single category that matters.

Long live the University of Louisiana....because honestly who gives a frick?
