It's not fake. But it is often misdiagnosed as bipolar disorder either accidentally or purposely in order to prescribe meds that are "approved" for bipolar but also potentially effective in borderline pd.
Most of the people's experiences in here are with women who have borderline personality traits, not the full blown disorder. Everyone has traits of personality disorders to varying degrees, that's why so many always repeat "bitches be crazy" but it's noting like full blown. I've seen people with bpd die from accidentally successful suicide attempts with Tylenol which they thought was a benign med but is truly deadly in overdose. I've seen beautiful girls with dozens of scars littering both forearms from razor blade slashes.
Bipolar disorder is easier to treat because generally, on its own, it's not one's baseline status. Borderline on the other hand is who you are. That's why it's difficult. But, for those who have come to the insight you have, DBT is the way to go.
