I was drinking beer last night in a VFW canteen with a bunch of Vietnam vets.

Sure, I thanked them for their service, and, only one of them became a bit excited to explain to me that Memorial Day is for the fallen -- of course I already knew that, but, I was able to appropriately clarify myself more fully by speaking about how much I want to honor those military personnel that fell.

The Vietnam Vet that got agitated does indeed have some disabilities today because he got blown up in combat in Vietnam.

I think we can give some slack and extra deference to folks like him.

The best way to handle this weekend is to tell a war vet:
"I wish I could also thank our honored fallen for their service. I thank you for your service. I've always been proud of people like you."
