Sure there is some ugly history, when the church happens to be the oldest (and first) Christian church that's bound to happen.
The Crusades? Many were necessary, but there were plenty of atrocities that were excommunicated from the church because of their behavior.
The pedophiles and cover-ups? A complete abomination, but it's not like the church accepted it. It's still a sin. It doesn't change dogma or canon like the protestant churches change with the times.

Most of my family are practicing catholic, FYI. I would tell them the same things I've said in this thread.
and you are completely wrong.

I am moved to tears at times during worship, but I come to kind of get a locker room pep talk. The rest of the week is the true game.
Football analogy and stuff.

Yet no mention of the Eucharist and adoration it deserves, but you come for your selfish needs of a pep talk. This is the destruction Protestantism is bringing to the faith.

You don't believe Catholicism was the first church of christ?
Catholic doctrine has not and cannot change. THe practice and liturgy and church services can change, but the actual beliefs on what is sinful and what is heresy cannot change and are protected by the Holy Spirit. This was promised by Christ.
The protestant churches are either protesting funeral and HATING FA*s or on the opposite side of the spectrum and saying, "nah, you can get married even though you're gay. We change with the times."
No truth at all in it. It's dogma constantly changes. Whatever they can do to remain popular. Make sure the youth pastor brings a cool rap about God and some cookies and juice.

Don't be so quick to judge. My life is driven by the spirit.

I'm not judging you. I do not know you and I can't even judge my own sins/intentions, let alone yours. I apologize if I've come off that way.
I'm saying that mass should be about the presence of Christ, not about yourself.
I am glad you're driven by the spirit and trust in our savior. Peace be with you.

The number of folks who are doing mental gymnastics to rationalize this "family values superstar" being a kiddie/sister diddler is mindboggling.
Y'all people need Jesus. For real.

Do you feel the presence of God when not at mass?

Touché
As does this Josh Diddler character.

No, I don't. But I've also studied quite a bit of church history. I'm very interested in religions, particularly "heresies." I've also studied quite a bit of late Roman and Byzantine history too.

Oh, I see.

Of course, but the Eucharist is actually his flesh and blood in our presence which allows for solemn adoration
Posted on 5/22/15 at 12:18 pm to Moustache
Are you talking about communion? We do that.

never heard them talk about their perverted son molesting their children.
Who would? He was a minor! And here comes the media to open the wounds back up...i mean, if you cheated on your wife and she found out and you worked through your problems would you go around telling people you cheated even though you worked through your problems?? I know it's a totally different scenario but kind of the same thinking..would you go around blasting the wrong you have done knowing everything you do would be under a microscope even more?
Posted on 5/22/15 at 12:21 pm to BigEdLSU
Yes. So you believe the bread and wine are fully flesh and blood, because most Protestants (aside from Lutherans) believe it is merely a sumbol

I would first have to get a star reality tv show about how great of marriage partners we are for their to come the hypocrisy.

They chose to be under a microscope and chose to go around pontificating on everyone else's perceived sins. It's a long fall from that high horse and I say frick 'em. People around here are tired of their worn out act.

It is done in remembrance of Christ and his blood shed for us. The all saving blood. The blood that can save those who don't partake in one communion ever.

Not the forum for this debate but I disagree partly. It is not a remembrance or symbol. There is a reason jesus lost disciples over telling people to eat of the flesh. It was a hard teaching to accept and jesus didn't mean it symbolically.
