Dr. Darrel Gilbert and his wife, Wendy Katz, hold up the massive redfish Gilbert landed Friday near South Pass. Capt. Mike Frenette said the fish measured 53 1/2 inches long with a 31 1/2-inch girth, and estimated its weight at 65 pounds.

A giant redfish that would have almost certainly broken the current state record was caught — and then released — last Friday afternoon in Venice along the shoreline outside of South Pass.

Capt. Mike Frenette, with Redfish Lodge of Louisiana, said the massive fish measured 53 1/2 inches long with a girth of more than 31 inches, and weighed approximately 65 pounds.

That is not a 53" long fish

My fish was a LA record if that was the case:

I find it hard to believe the fish survived after fighting that long.

Based off of my own personal measuring system, that fish is at least 100" long....
